When it comes to CrossFit, you need a shoe that can do it all. One minute you'll be running, next minute you'll be on the floor doing burpees, then before you know it you're on the platform doing max rep snatches. That's where the Nike Metcon 3 shoes come in.
The first thing you need for CrossFit is a weightlifting shoe style heel. You need a solid base for your heels and something that feels like a weightlifting shoe that you're used to lifting in. With a drop-in mid-sole, the Nike Metcon 3 has a very sturdy heel and when you slip it on, it feels exactly like a lifting shoe. The clincher, however, is in the softer forefoot. When you're wearing the Metcon 3 you can almost feel the difference in the mid-part of the foot where the solid heel turns into a soft forefoot for running and sprinting. You would never run in your lifting shoes - it doesn't even bare thinking about - so you need a shoe that has the flexibility needed for running and jumping and the Metcon 3 has this. The front of the shoe feels just like a regular trainer, with the flexibility you'd expect for athletics.
Firstly let's go back to the introduction of the Free to the Metcon range. The Free Mecton was first introduced in 2018 as an answer to the comfort demands of metcon-heads. The core Metcon shoe (generation 1-4 at the time) was specifically designed for any movements that a CrossFitter might throw at them. This was great for constantly varied WODs, but spend a whole day in Metcons and it could feel a little harsh on foot. Enter the first Free X Metcon.
Whoever said you can't have the best of both worlds clearly hadn't had a pair of Nike Frees. The shoe is literally the collision of comfort and durability and nowhere is this seen more so than in the dual density sole. Turn the shoe on its head and you can see colorful patterns of the softer underfoot cushioning (green in the image above) and the firmer and more stabler outer sole (black). This gives you stability and tractions without compromising on comfort.
There's no doubt that the Free Metcon 3 looks different to what fans had perhaps expected. But one thing that is no different to the cherished Metcon range is the subtle storytelling throughout the design details of the shoe. The thick stripe on the outer heel for instance is not just a color-way choice, but it highlights the exact point in the shoe where the Metcon heel merges with the Free sole. A poignant detail in the disruptive design which symbolises the meeting of the Metcon range with the wider demands of the training community.
Nike Metcon 3, as the name implies, this is nike's third iteration of their Metcon shoe. So is the third time the charm Has Nike learned and improved upon the Metcon 2 Is the Nike Metcon 3 a better shoe than the Reebok Nano 7.0 Should you even upgrade to the Nike Metcon 3
Over all the silhouette of the metcon 3 has been slightly changed from the metcon 2. the metcon 3 are much lower than i expected and it did catch me by surprise. there isn't a lot of ankle support, but in return you get a lot of ankle mobility. the flexibility of the out sole, mid sole, and thermal wrap all make for a very flexible shoe over all. so flexible in fact that when i took my first few steps i couldn't believe i was still wearing shoes. its also worth noting that these shoes just like their metcon 2 counter part they are a little narrow. I would still go true to size, but keep in mind they are narrow none the less. 59ce067264
