Clean-up time: The rollers are easy to take apart and clean. The Therabody does require you to remove the foam core — a thin plastic liner that’s attached to the rollers — before you can clean them, but the liner is cheap and easy to replace.

Size range: The Rollers’ size ranges were similar. The size of the foams varied more. The Therabody is about 13 inches (33 cm) long and 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. The NextRoller is 13 inches (33 cm) long and about 3 inches (8 cm) in diameter. The VulkRoll is about 13 inches (33 cm) long and about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter.
Upgrade: For a more advanced massage roller, the Therabody Wave Roller is a solid choice. The aluminum roller is sturdy and easy to clean, and the rollers are interchangeable, making it easy to experiment with different massage zones. It’s also very quiet, which can be a nice feature for those looking to roll out of the way when guests or children enter a room. The roller has a long handle, so it’s easy to strap to your chair or desk. Of all the rollers we tested, it has the largest and deepest rollers, which gives it a “deep” massage, and it has the most rollers, which allows for more coverage of larger muscles.
Tripod: All of the rollers we tested were designed for use on a flat surface, but they are also designed for being held on a portable handheld tripod. The Therabody is easy to set up on a tripod.
