Snehaveedu was the most financially successful of all the films Anthikad made in his lifetime. The film was a major box office hit, the most profitable in the career of Sathyan Anthikad and the only film that made a record profits. The film was given a theatrical release on 2 May 1996. After releasing in the theatres, the film was released on video cassettes, which were distributed by Ashwamithra. Upon its release, the film became the most successful comedy movie of 1996, grossing 100 crore in the box office. The film, which also received a Tamil remake titled Pammal K. Sambandham, also received critical acclaim. The film won four Kerala State Film Awards for the best movie, best director, best actress and best screenplay. In addition to these, the Kerala State Film Awards 2013 for Best Actor (Sheela) and Best Actress (Sheela) were given to the actors.[9] Sathyan Anthikad received the United Nations Kala Award for his films in 2011 and 2012.
On the box office, Snehaveedu collected a total of Rs.2.15 crore in its first week at the box office.[10]Snehaveedu''s first week collection was lower than the opening week collection of the other Sathyan Anthikad movies, Manassinakare (Rs.3.59 crore) and Achuvinte Amma (Rs.5.07 crore)''s first week collections. However, at the end of the first week, the film''s total collection was higher than Manassinakare''s first week collection of Rs.1.21 crore and Amma''s first week collection of Rs.2.74 crore.[10]
