It doesn't like the Windows 10 default device for the audio drivers. I fixed the issue by going into Windows 10 Control Panel Main Device, set it to use the Realtek default, and then restarted the Microsoft Fixit service. Then I rebooted, and voila! Audio worked. Many thanks to auser.
Ok well, I'm planning on ditching Windows. I have an Acer laptop and an Acer desktop on life support at the moment, and I've considered just running fstab to format the HDD for either Ubuntu or Mint. Is there anything I should know/tarry with? I don't have time to mess around, I just wanna get my stuff off the laptop and get a better OS running again. Please help!
You could install an embedded version of Windows if you are motivated enough to download an image for another thin client then use imagex to write it to flash, but I wouldn't bother on such an underpowered machine. WinPE variants could also work. See my previous post.
Note that Windows 8.1 and later use the X64 version of Windows kernel by default; therefore, an x64-based virtual machine such as VMware or VirtualBox can be used to run 32-bit Windows virtual machines on top of the 64-bit Windows kernel. Alternatively, 32-bit Windows (or a native Windows build for a 32-bit OS) on a 32-bit-only computer (such as a 32-bit Pentium or AMD Geode) with a physical 32-bit PCI or EISA video card and a USB-to-EISA-to-VESA adapter could be used to build a 32-bit Windows system image. 7211a4ac4a
