Razor 1911 used a website called the RazorSOX that allowed people to download cracked copies of games that were under copyright. The RazorSOX also contained warez, freeware, and other pirated software. With the site's end, Cobra took over the site and decided to release their own service, called CODEX, to share illegal copies of games. Razor 1911 was often called one of the worst groups in the scene. It is unknown how many cracked copies the Razor 1911 (or RazorSOX) group released, but it is known that they launched the RazorSOX in 1985 and began to release cracked copies of games in 1992. Most of the games they released had ProDOS and LaserDisk Ghost as the protection methods. Some games such as Grim Fandango, Sim City 2000, and Patlabor 3: Amakusa Assault were released under other names.
In late 2002, Razor 1911 launched their own site called RazorSOX2 and later Razor1911. They also began releasing cracked copies of games from places such as Allintech for no charge, and using the same protection methods. The group rented SSL-enabled web servers to protect the cracked copies they had protected. Cobra released some of their own files to protect their cracked copies as well. With the end of Razor1911 on Sunday, January 2, 2003 at 9:00 GMT, the now-defunct website has no more protection for the Game Boy Advance games it has cracked. The remastered version of Stinger Jet Man (which, since Razor1911, has been an Acornsoft game) is protected, but the other games are not.
Shortly after Cobra's partnership with Razor1911 was discovered, some of Cobra's associates became former Razor1911 members. Among these former associates were: A-kass, Indy, KAZOJAWA, Maylander, and Proxo.
In late 2017 CODEX gained notoriety by becoming the third scene group (and fifth overall entity) to crack Denuvo DRM when they released a cracked version of Middle-earth: Shadow of War on its release date. d2c66b5586
