There was a lot of skepticism going into A&E's Bates Motel. \"Who wants to see a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's classic Why do we need to see Norman Bates' origin story How can this sustain itself for five or more seasons\" The show ultimately proved to be a success with viewers. However, after season one, it's struggled to prove those skeptics wrong.
That last shot, of course, is an homage to the most iconic scene from Psycho. Will season four get closer to the events in the Hitchcock movie Possibly. A&E has renewed Bates Motel for its fourth and the fifth and final season.
Yes, [it will be] five seasons. Kerry and I have a pretty clear roadmap. We have a pretty clear plan of where we want to go and we want to bring this story to its inevitable conclusion. I think Bates is not its best version if it's an open-ended series.
Season four and five are each 10 episodes in length, and both seasons will air this year. I don't intend on watching the upcoming episodes, but it'd be lovely to hear if the show just went through nothing more than a rough season or two and ends on a satisfying note.
Synopsis: All ten episodes from the fourth season of the mystery thriller series starring Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore. A modern reimagining and contemporary prequel to the 1960 Hitchcock classic 'Psycho', the series follows the strange relationship between Norman Bates (Highmore) and his overbearing mother Norma (Farmiga). Living in White Pine Bay, Oregon, the pair run a motel business on the Pacific coast. The mother-son relationship is something of a community concern, but Norman and Norma are both aware that White Pine Bay's citizens have many secrets of their own. In this season, Norman uncovers some painful truths during therapy, while Norma becomes increasingly fearful of her son's fragile psyche. The episodes are: 'A Danger to Himself and Others', 'Goodnight, Mother', ''Til Death Do You Part', 'Lights of Winter', 'Refraction', 'The Vault', 'There's No Place Like Home', 'Unfaithful', 'Forever' and 'Norman'.Director: Cast: Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thierot, Olivia Cooke, Vera FarmigaRegion Code: 2 (UK & Europe)Cert: 15Format: DVD
I completely blame A&E for making me a complete nervous wreck from the first second of season 4 until the last minute. Norman Bates was full on psycho this season and it was creepy as heck. For those who have yet to catch up on the first three seasons, there may be some spoilers along the way. Just a heads up.
For the record, when I said that I was totally creeped out by Norman this season, its a credit to Freddie Highmore for his excellent portrayal of a repressed psychopath. While the revelation of the backstory that fueled his madness somehow put his insanity in perspective, I just kept waiting for him to snap. And the threat of him going full on psycho kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. My heart was just about ready to jump out of my chest because gone was the innocence and the charm of Norman of days past. His eyes were just a pool of menace that I was even surprised that it was only Romero who saw through him. Bravo, Freddie Highmore, Anthony Perkins (the original Norman Bates) would be proud.
The year's end is a time for offering up takes. Which movie was the best of the year Which artists crafted the best bops Which TV episodes will stand the test of time Yes, it's best-of list season, and the lists are plentiful.
In its debut season, FX's Atlanta firmly established itself as the homemade, singular vision of its creator/star Donald Glover. Through its audacious storytelling, comedic gags with spectacular viral potential, cultural commentary and troupe of oddball characters, Atlanta delivered a lived-in portrait of black life in the South with true intimacy.
Bates Motel delivered a memorable season four finale with a plot line that didn't come as a surprise to any Psycho fans. Yes, we all knew that Norma Bates was going to die. However, the A&E prequel series still managed to make it an emotional ordeal thanks to the addition of Nestor Carbonell's Sheriff Romero.
Luckily, there won't be too many painful partings this month, with the only notable exits being a few holiday movies, stand-up specials from Hannibal Buress, and the first eight seasons of Family Guy. Check the full list, below, to see everything arriving and leaving Netflix in February.
We still have plenty of cold weather left in the season, so don't take yourself out of the hygge mentality just yet. Instead, prepare to cozy up with a binge or two until Punxsutawney Phil lets us know when we can stop hibernating. 59ce067264
